Chuckanut Bay Rugby Club (CBRC) is proud to announce a strategic expansion of its youth "Minis" program this spring. For the first time, the club will offer two distinct locations for U8 and U10 Flag Rugby, providing families in Northwest Washington more flexibility and easier access to the sport.
Growth Through Accessibility
As part of our mission to develop rugby across all ages, we are expanding our footprint to meet the growing demand from local families. This season, practices are currently at Ferndale High School 5:30-6:30pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Starting March 10th, parents can choose the location that best fits their schedule and geography:
- The Sunnyland Playground: Continuing our long-standing tradition in the heart of Bellingham, the program will remain active at Sunnyland Elementary.
- Ferndale High School & The deWilde Fields: Expanding north to our flagship home, deWilde Rugby & Polo Fields, flag rugby will now run alongside our U12, U14, and High School programs.

"We’ve seen steady growth over the last few years, and the club is ready to take this program to the next level," said Kellen Wiggins, Club President. "By offering more choices, we make it easier for families to say 'yes' to rugby."
Leadership on the Pitch
The expansion is made possible by our dedicated volunteer head coaches and team coaches.
- Gordon Henry, our veteran flag rugby head coach, will continue to anchor the Sunnyland program, maintaining the high standard of fun and fundamentals he is known for.
- Patrick Sullivan, a "homegrown" Chuckanut player who has been with the club since his own youth days, will take the lead at the deWilde fields. Patrick’s transition from player to youth mentor embodies the values that define our club.

One Club, One Location for Families
The move to include flag rugby at the deWilde fields is a game-changer for "multi-rugby" households. Families with children in different age brackets can now have their U8 player and their High School player practicing at the same complex, fostering a stronger sense of community and making the "Thursday afternoon practice rush" much more manageable.
Join the Movement
As we grow, so does our need for community support. Whether you are a parent new to the sport or a former player looking to give back, we invite you to join us. Our flag program is the first step in a journey that teaches integrity, discipline, and respect.
Registration is now open! Visit www.chuckanut.rugby to pick your location and secure a spot for the next generation of ruggers.
