The Chuckanut Bay Rugby Club was founded in 1973 after a group of recent Western Washington University graduates realized that they couldn't play as Western students.
They formed the club and established the Geoducks as the team mascot because of its history as the most dangerous bi-valve in the Pacific Northwest. The founders picked Columbia Blue (the traditional WWU color) and Orange (the traditional hue of a Chuckanut Bay sunset) as the team colors.
In 2003, the club incorporated as a 501c3 non-profit organization and focused on growing rugby for kids in addition to the adult teams.
Our club offers rugby to athletes of all ages from Grades K - 8th, High School and Adult teams!
Our athletes have a direct pathway between our club and the High Performance structure with our Regional Performance Teams in the Pacific Northwest, in addition to our Seattle Professional Team and Team USA.
Our Games are currently played on the weekends on the deWilde Rugby & Polo Fields in Ferndale, WA
Our mission is to develop the sport of rugby across all ages and levels, providing opportunities for recreation and competition throughout northwest Washington.
Camaraderie - Passion - Respect - Sportsmanship
These four words encapsulate the essence of rugby. Camaraderie fosters strong bonds among teammates, Passion drives players to excel, Respect for the game and opponents is paramount, and Sportsmanship ensures a fair and enjoyable experience for all.
Our club values are driven by the history and traditions the game of rugby has passed down from one generation to the next. With a focus on Values, members of Chuckanut Bay will collectively drive a winning culture by developing people of high character both on and off the field of play.
As a 501c3 Impact Organization, Chuckanut Bay Athletic Association’s focus is on developing a sustainable member-driving club that provides opportunities to participate, engage, and support our club mission and values.
We are proud to stand with the trans and nonbinary community. We have come together to extend our explicit invitation to all players to join us on and off the pitch. We intend to create a brave and supportive space for any and all players and community members who want to be involved with rugby. We embrace people of all backgrounds and identities, including but not limited to race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, size, ability, sexuality, gender, and/or its expression(s).
We stand firmly against the exclusion of trans and nonbinary athletes from any sport and know that the inclusion of all identities makes our community stronger. Sharing medical details related to your gender identity or expression with our clubs is not required to play with us. Our cosigning teams commit to welcoming players of all identities and uplifting every member of our community.
We know that our sport is for everyone, and we would love to have you on our team. We hope to see you on the pitch!
